The number that decides your print size is not the file size in megabytes, it is the pixel dimensions. A photo that is 4000 pixels wide has 4000 dots of real detail to spread across the width of the print. Spread them over a small print and they pack in tightly. Spread them over a huge one and they stretch apart, which is when a print starts to look soft.
DPI (dots per inch) is simply how tightly you pack them. Divide the pixel width by the DPI and you get the print width in inches. A 4000 pixel wide photo at 300 DPI gives you 13.3 inches. The same photo at 150 DPI gives you 26.7 inches.
Viewing distance is the part most people miss. 300 DPI matters for something you hold or study up close. A large piece on a wall is normally seen from several feet away, and at that distance 150 DPI, or even 100 DPI, looks perfectly sharp to the eye. That is why big prints do not need the resolution people assume they do.

Most modern phone photos are between 3000 and 4000 pixels on the long edge, which comfortably covers wall art up to roughly 24 x 36 inches at standard quality.
We print from a minimum of 6 inches on any side up to a maximum of 40 inches on the longer side and 32 inches on the shorter side. Your photo keeps its original proportions, so the exact largest size we can make depends on the shape of your image. The calculator above already applies these limits to your result.
You have three good options. Print it smaller, which is always the sharpest result. Choose a texture that hides softness, such as canvas, where the weave naturally disguises a lower resolution far better than smooth paper or metal. Or go back to the original file: photos saved from messaging apps, social media or email are often heavily compressed copies, and the original from your camera roll usually has far more detail.
